🍎macOS setup

Download the disk image

Grab Annotate.dmg from your receipt email or the download page.

Drag to Applications

Double-click the .dmg, then drag Annotate onto the /Applications shortcut. Done in 5 seconds.

Open past Gatekeeper

Direct-distributed apps get one “unverified developer” nudge. Fix: right-click Annotate.appOpenOpen. Only needed once.

xattr -cr /Applications/Annotate.app

🪟Windows setup

Download the installer

Grab Annotate.msi (64-bit) from your receipt or the download page.

Run the wizard

Double-click and click Next a few times. Annotate lands in your system tray, ready to doodle.

Wave past SmartScreen

New builds sometimes trigger SmartScreen. Click More infoRun anyway. You're good.

Press P

Pen appears. Draw over any window.

F

Press F

Spotlight dims all but your cursor.

V

Press V

Poof — back to normal cursor.

🔐 macOS permission: grant Accessibilityonce (System Settings → Privacy & Security) so global hotkeys work over every app. That's the only permission Annotate ever asks for.
